Bassenthwaite Lake
Dancing Gate is ideally located for touring the North Lake District,
and just a few minutes drive from the popular market town of
Keswick, with its individual shops, places
to eat and drink, and many attractions of interest to visitors
such as the Cars
of the Stars Motor Museum. For evening entertainment there
is the popular
Theatre
By The Lake and the Lonsdale
Alhambra Cinema.
The scenery is,
of course, magnificent, and for those who enjoy the great outdoors
there is no better place, whether you walk, cycle, drive, paint,
photograph or just sit and and watch. The wildlife here is remarkable,
with ospreys nesting just a short distance away and the always
popular red squirrels. For those who enjoy water sports there
are marinas beside Derwentwater with hire facilities, or you
can take a leisurely cruise on the lake on one of the Keswick
Launches.
Within easy reach by car or public transport
are towns and villages such as Grasmere, Ambleside or Windermere.
The historic Cumbrian coast is a short distance away, and the
great border city of Carlisle is less than an hour, and beyond
to the north Pennines and Hadrian's Wall.
